Global
Principles
Principles
for Global Corporate Responsibility
is a document produced by the Interfaith Center on Corporate
Responsibility, a North American association of 275 Protestant, Roman
Catholic and Jewish institutional investors. It presents a set of global
standards for corporate responsibility to encourage dialogue and changes
in company policies and practices. The document is available to groups
working on corporate responsibility and to companies seeking to respond
to the challenges of doing business in a global economy.
Faith communities
measure the global economy not only by what it produces, but also by its
impact on the environment, how it touches human life and whether it protects
the dignity of the human person. Principles for Global Corporate
Responsibility calls for:
- A new relationship
between corporations and communities;
- Payment
of sustainable living wages and support of sustainable community development;
- Respect
for the dignity of every person and for the workers right to organize
and bargain collectively;
- Strong codes
of conduct for corporations and suppliers independently monitored by
local non-governmental organizations;
- Corporate
governance policies that balance the sometimes competing interests of
managers, employees, shareholders and communities; and
- Protection
of the environment.
